This Story Behind 2020 Porsche Taycan Will Haunt You Forever!

Porsche’s first-ever electric vehicle is 2020 Porsche Taycan. It was initiated four years ago when the Mission E concept car was exposed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. During that time, everyone was shocked by the idea of an all-electric Porsche sports car. It was doubtful in the beginning, but now it has come to reality as 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S. it is guaranteed that Taycan delivers the performance, style and build precision that any user expect from the marque.

Performance

The Taycan 4S is powerful for an entry-level model. With the regular Performance Battery, the 4S makes 522 horsepower, whereas Performance Battery Plus makes 563 horsepower. Moreover, all 4S models can go up to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, top speed being 155 mph.

The Turbo powertrain generates a maximum of 616 horsepower and 626 lb-ft of torque. The Turbo S has got a more robust front motor, also a launch control with an over-boost function. Thus all of these raise the bar to 750 hp, 774 lb-ft of torque, which ends up in 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds.

Moreover, the front motor has a coaxial direct-drive design that lines up more or less with the front axle. The reduction in gear and differential exists in one end. One of the latter output shafts runs through the car’s hollow center to feed power to the opposite wheel. Further, the torque split between the front and rear can be reformed on a nearly instantaneous basis as per the driver’s demand and surface changes.

The Taycan Turbo can generate impressive acceleration from a standstill using first gear using Sport and Sport Plus modes. After shifting into a higher gear, it delivers an autobahn-worthy 162-mph top speed.

2020 Porsche Taycan vs. Panamera

The Mission E’s elegant four-door styling gave the early doubters something to hang onto. The Porsche Taycan is smaller and more closely proportioned than the Panamera. Thus the overall length is 3.4 inches shorter, and the wheelbase has been trimmed by 1.9 inches.

Further, it also bows 1.6 inches lower at the roof and extends 1.1 inches broader. The result is a well-developed carriage and an elegant roofline that gives the Porsche Taycan the look of an upgraded four-door 911 instead of a downsized Panamera.

Despite the fact the Porsche Taycan is a four-door machine like the Panamera, there is a very little Panamera in it other than few bolt-on suspension components at the corners. Otherwise, it is built on a systematically new electric vehicle platform. Hence there are two battery packs: one 79.2-kWh pack, which is called the performance battery by Porsche, or a higher capacity 93.4-kWh pack, which is known as a performance battery plus used. The performance battery pack is standard on the Taycan 4s, and the performance battery plus pack comes as an optional on 4S, and it is usual in both Turbo and Turbo S. The Turbo is powered by Potent permanent-magnet electric motors on each end while the Turbo S is powered by a larger engine than the one on the 4S. This design gives the Taycan the lowest center of gravity that of any Porsche.

But rest assured that this electric rocket can deliver the sort of neck-stretching performance you’d get with any other Porsche wearing the Turbo badge.

Fuel economy

To be different from all other electric vehicles in the market, which uses 400-volt systems, Porsche has selected an 800-volt electrical system. Therefore due to the higher voltage, the smaller, stronger motors and thinner wires provide better packaging and lower weight. Bothe, The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S models have got the same “Performance Battery Plus” battery pack — 396 individual lithium-ion cells with a combined storage capacity of 93.4 kWh — retained in a liquid-cooled and armored case.

Battery

Owners with a standard Level 2 charging unit can charge the vehicle in about nine hours at home or office. However, an expanding network of 270 kW DC fast chargers delivers a 5%-80% state-of-charge in about 22 minutes. This makes the Porsche Taycan is one of the fastest charging vehicles available today.

Design

Exterior

Both 2020 Porsche Taycan models have standard electronically controlled dampers and three-chamber air suspension that is adjustable for both height and firmness.

The Turbo has 20-inch wheels with 245/45 tires in front and 285/40 tires in back. The Turbo S has 21-inch wheels with more massive 265/35 tires in front and 305/30 tires in back.

Further, both of our cars are fitted with rear-axle steering and with the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) system. The rear-axle steering offers great everyday benefits since it lets the Taycan make unexpected tight U-turns in the meantime, giving it rock-solid stability when cruising straight. The PDCC is very operative since it adjusts the anti-roll bars to shrink body roll to near zero in high-speed corners and lets the bars go loose to combat head toss on rough and uneven roads. However, the need depends on where and how you drive.

There are massive 10-piston front brake calipers and pizza-size front blades that are over 16 inches in diameter. Moreover, Ceramic-composite brake blades are available as an option. The Taycan’s regenerative braking capacity is uncommonly high at 0.39g, which is almost double. And Porsche says that the pads could technically last for 20 years; however, they want you to change them after six years as rust will outpace wear. Further The2020 Porsche Taycan pedal feels firm and easy to control.

Interior

The 2020 Porsche Taycan cockpit has managed to be both modern and familiar at the same time. It has superb quality and luxurious materials that are not seen in another premium EVs.

The instrument panel is a full 16.8-inch curved display where you can change with the steering wheel controls, plus the menus are as simple and straightforward. There Clearly labeled touch-sensitive controls on both sides of the steering wheel, which manages the lights and traction control.

A 10.9-inch display serves as the central infotainment interface. It has clear menu logic and maps graphics. Moreover, it is combined with a portrait-oriented 8.4-inch screen below, which shows the climate controls and a touchpad to aid scroll through lists. Yet there is no volume knob. However, there is a roller control on the steering wheel, but there is also a subtly marked plus-minus zone low on the touchpad. Further, the passenger has got an optional second screen directly in front, in which route adjustments and play DJ can be controlled.

Sound system

The 2020 Porsche Taycan has an optional Burmester surround sound system, which sounds glorious. In the Taycan, you can use your Apple Music account without a phone in the car, plus Apple CarPlay is supported via USB cable. However, Android Auto is not available.
There are familiar and spontaneous physical controls for the steering wheel, mirrors, wipers, cruise control, and other things that are usually operated with switches and stalks.

Further, Porsche is delighted with its electronically controlled air-conditioning vents. The airflow direction can be adjusted through a menu-level deep into the touchscreen, which gives the options as Diffuse, Focused, and Individual. Further, by choosing the latter, it opens a screen where it allows customizing the focus points according to your preference.

Seats are comfortable and supportive over long stretches. And even though they are very adjustable, the basic form is good enough. Several leather themes and one leather-free fabric options are available. Further, there is plenty of headroom and legroom, and the driving position is top-notch.

Battery

The 2020 Porsche Taycan battery is fundamentally different from any competitor’s. The battery, inverters, electric motors, and the external DC fast-charging equipment are all assembled around the 800-volt operation. Whereas other cars are built around 400 volts. Thus this higher voltage allows for faster charging, higher regenerative braking capacity, cooler motor operating temperatures, and smaller onboard cabling that weighs less, taking up much less space.

Available colors

There are factory paint choices and interior color schemes to choose from. For the exterior paint, there are ten colors to choose from, in which half of those are shades of gray, and the other half are more bold colors. All colors no-charge option except for Carmine Red, thus it costs an extra $3,150. The colors are:

Price

Pricing starts around $104,000, but with higher trim levels, the price can go up to $200,000 with options. The base Porsche Taycan 4S will cost around $103,800. Whereas the midrange Taycan Turbo will costs around $150,900, plus the Taycan Turbo S raises the price to $185,000. Overall, the Taycan is pricier than all other luxury electric cars; hence, for many shoppers, 2020 Porsche Taycan would be out of reach.
Hence it is no doubt that the 2020 Porsche Taycan would challenge a wide range of conventional sport-luxury sedans in 2020.
